The quality assessment namely Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) is a system or method to ensure and evaluate the workmanship quality of a building construction work base on Construction Industry Standard (CIS 7:2014). QLASSIC enables the quality of workmanship between construction projects to be objectively compare through a scoring system. Hence, this system assesses contractor workmanship and broader quality assurance for both contractors and overall construction projects

Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) was introduced to the Malaysian construction industry to address the issue of quality in building construction projects. Since its introduction in 2007, many developers of properties in housing and real estate has reported better demand and sales or their properties through the reduction of defects during the Defects Liability Period (DLP) and lesser end-user complaints. In conceiving the benefit of applying QLASSIC from these projects, coupled with the continuing issue of quality which has been inherent in affordable housing projects, the government is considering the application in affordable housing projects.
This paper presents the study conducted to provide further in-sights to this viability of QLASSIC application in affordable housing projects. The aim was to establish the difference in the defects between QLASSIC applied and non-QLASSIC applied projects by drawing data from available government and private affordable housing projects.

QLASSIC which was developed based on Construction Industry Standard (CIS 7:2014) and was introduced in Malaysia construction industry to address the continuing issue of poor quality in building construction projects. Since its introduction, QLASSIC have been variably been received by the industry. There are clients, consultants and developers that have been actively applying QLASSIC in their projects. In realizing its benefits, they have been championing its application. However, there was also others that have been lethargic in supporting the application of QLASSIC in their projects.
This paper presents the study conducted to provide further in-sights to this phenomenon. The aim was to establish the extents od cost-benefit of QLASSIC application in reducing the cost of defects rectification during the project’s Defects Liability Period (DLP)

The guideline aims to provide a practical overview of house manufacturing using the volumetric construction method. Furthermore, the information contained in the guideline intends to assist those parties angaged in architecture design, structural design, mechanical, electrical and plumbing design; the manufacturing volumetric modules process installation; construction; logistics and project management.

This report stems from a request to the UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) by the Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM), the research agency of the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB), to conduct a review on the CIDB’s Construction Industry Transformation Programme 2016-2020 (CITP) and the legislative framework relevant to the health and safety performance of the Malaysian construction industry. 

In this regard, HSE was asked to propose improvements to further enhance the health and safety performance in Malaysia’s construction industry as well as to provide advice on the necessary steps to ensure a successful introduction of its Department of Occupational Safety and Health’s (DOSH) Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health in Construction Industry (Management) 2017 (GOSHCIM) into the Malaysian legislation.
