CIDB Malaysia was established by Act 520 (Lembaga Pembangunan Industri Pembinaan Malaysia Act 1994) in July 1994 as a statutory body under the Ministry of Works Malaysia to coordinate all activities in the construction industry and increase its global competitiveness.

The IBS Centre is an initiative by CIDB Malaysia in supporting the targets of Construction Industry Master Plan 2006-2015 and IBS Roadmap 2003-2010. Established in 2007, it functions as the reference centre regarding IBS for all government agencies and industry players; as well as home improvers and students. This enables knowledge sharing and facilitates better cooperation among the stakeholders. It also functions as a gateway to market IBS products domestically and internationally.
