The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia was awarded the Anti-Bribery Management System certification, also known as MS ISO 37001:2016 as part of the organisation’s effort to improve organisational efficiency and effectiveness in managing risks associated with bribery, through better prevention, detection and response as well as to comply with laws, regulations and other voluntary commitments.
The MS ISO 37001 is a voluntary internal control system for organisations to manage, handle, enforce, evaluate as well as to improve anti-corruption measures effectively. It is a flexible instrument that can be adapted to decrease the corruption risks faced by any organisation.
“This is the first time CIDB has been awarded this certification, a reflection of our pledge to promote integrity within our organisation. Moreover, it showcases our commitment to become an example for the industry. After all, we are the regulator of the Malaysian construction sector,” said Datuk Ir. Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid, Chief Executive of CIDB Malaysia who received the award on behalf of CIDB.
The Certification was presented to CIDB by Mohd Hamim Imam Mustain, Senior General Manager (Management System Certification Department) of SIRIM QAS, who represented Mohd Azanuddin Salleh, Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM QAS.
“To become a global player, the construction industry must work towards uplifting the performance and professionalism of the sector including our shared commitment to fight corruption. In this regard, we must be mindful of our responsibilities to build safeguards to protect public interest, and ultimately promote public confidence in the construction sector,” said Datuk Ir. Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid.
The Certification for CIDB is valid as of 9 January 2020 through 8 January 2023. The scope of MS ISO 37001 covers Anti-Bribery Management Systems for CIDB headquarters, encompassing the areas of Contractor Registration and Levy, Construction Personnel Registration and Enforcement.
