KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Executive of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia, Dato Ir Ahmad 'Asri Abdul Hamid is confident that Malaysia's two participants to the World Skills Competition (WSC) in Abu Dhabi next week will do the nation proud.

“This skills competition to be held in Abu Dhabi is the biggest competition in the vocational sector.

“The competition gives us a chance to showcase our skills and talents... to show that we are on par with the other nations,” he said during a live chat show on Bernama News Channel on Thursday (October 5, 2017).

He added that the two Malaysian participants – both Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) trainees – also stand to win RM100,000 reward from the government if they win the gold medal.

The two trainees - Marinsun Lanun, 21, from ABM Sabah, and Muhammad Zulkifli Sahdan, 20, from ABM Johor – were also present at the chat show which was shown live on Bernama News Channel and Bernama Facebook.

Their participation in the competition - to be held from October 15 to 18 - is a testament to their success and achievements at the World Skills Malaysia Competition that was held in October 2015.

They will be representing Malaysia at the Wall & Floor Tiling, and Painting & Decorating categories respectively.

Speaking to Bernama after the show, Ahmad 'Asri, who is also the ABM chairman, said CIDB was confident of producing talented and skilled local construction personnel.

He said ABM has produced 340,000 local construction personnel from 2000 till now.

“The construction sector offers good employment opportunities. We should not look down on construction personnel. They actually can earn good money.

“It looks like a dirty job but in actual fact the income level is high,” he said.
